The focal point of Windsor is undoubtedly Windsor Castle, one of the official residences of the British Royal Family. This iconic fortress has stood for over 900 years, making it the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world. It has served as a royal residence and fortress for numerous monarchs throughout history. Visitors to Windsor Castle can explore its magnificent State Apartments, which are adorned with priceless artworks and furnishings. St. George's Chapel, located within the castle grounds, is another highlight, known for its stunning Gothic architecture and as the final resting place of many kings and queens, including Henry VIII and his third wife, Jane Seymour.
Aside from the castle, Windsor boasts a charming town center with cobbled streets, traditional English pubs, and boutique shops. Eton College, one of the most prestigious boarding schools in the world, is located just across the river from Windsor and is well worth a visit for its historic buildings and picturesque surroundings. Nearby, Windsor Great Park offers acres of beautiful parkland to explore, including the Long Walk, a tree-lined avenue leading from the castle to the Copper Horse statue atop Snow Hill.
Visitors to Windsor can also enjoy leisurely boat rides along the River Thames, taking in views of the castle and surrounding countryside from the water. For those seeking a bird's-eye view of the town, the Windsor View Wheel offers panoramic vistas from its enclosed capsules.
